President’s Message - - Season of Solidarity
Posted On: Nov 324, 2019

As the Faculty Guild begins negotiations with the LACCD on our 15th Collective Bargaining Agreement (the “heart and soul” of our union), I am honored to be part of the team, which has been assembled to represent all of the nine colleges and all of the faculty in the Guild unit.

At a time in our country when oligarchs would privatize anything that is “public,” it is especially important that we celebrate this democratic process, which advances our values -- not merely to make progress in the areas of wages, hours, and working conditions, but also to strengthen our institutions, support our students, and be responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.

Our success in negotiations depends on you. You know that. So “Thank you!” to all who took time to share your priorities in the negotiations survey. “Thank you!” to all who wore a “6/30” sticker on Opening Day, signaling our message to management to not delay negotiations past the expiration date of 6/30/2020. “Thank you!” to all who showed up at the November 6 Board of Trustees meeting as a show of strength as we met our legal requirement to sunshine our contract proposal.

There will be more activities for you to join as negotiations continue. Stay engaged and participate in our outreach activities and organizing efforts on your campus. And to honor our commitment to openness and transparency, we’ll keep you informed of our progress through our monthly Real News and our timely Loud and Clear bulletins.
